High School Golf : Final Words

    Author: doctorgolf
Subject: Final Words
Posted: 28 May 2008 at 10:56pm

I wanted to thank everyone who has supported myself & the Loftygolf Team in helping run this site over the past few years. I wish I could name all of the people who have helped make it a really cool place to go, but it would be too large of a list because everyone needs to be thanked!

Retiring from Loftygolf posts will not be easy for me, as I take a special interest in Junior Golf. For most of you who know me, you know that the game of golf saved my life. Honesty, Responsibility, Humility, Self Discipline, Perseverence, Patience, Faith, Sportsmanship, Confidence, Good Judgement, Courtesy, and Self Fulfillment are just a small dosage of what golf has given me in life. Without learning all of these great qualities thru the game of golf, I would not be where I am today in my life. More importantly, my students would not have benefited from this during their lessons or these Loftygolf posts over the years, had I not understood the true meaning of golf's life lessons.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in" ="Msonormal">

Being a teaching professional is a dream come true for me, one of which I have had since I was 9 or 10 years old. My teaching mentor, Mr. Davis Love Jr., who died in a plane crash right after I moved to Delaware from Sea Island Georgia, taught me how to be a great teacher. He said that teaching golf is a lot like learning about life. He made it fun for me and that is why I am successful at what I do.....as I will keep it fun for a student at all costs! Mr. Love's mentor and frined was Claude Harmon Sr.(Butch Harmon's dad and my all-time favorite teacher). I am never going to change what I do for a living, as I absolutely love coaching and teaching the game of golf. White Clay Creek is like heaven for me. My superiors at Delaware Park and White Clay Creek (Bill Fasy, Andrew Gentile, Bobbi Sample, & Ryan Kidwell) have made me feel at home and supported me in so many ways......and I will never be able to thank them enough for giving me what I need to succeed and help White Clay Creek continue to grow it's academy business into the successful vision that I can foresee. The best place for me to continue to support our local area's youth in playing this great game is right where I am.

I do not intend on ignoring Loftygolf's message board, as we will keep the site up and running. However, my posts will stop as of today, as my time has grown too short.

Again, for those of you who missed my retirement post from a couple of days back, I mentioned that I was leaving Loftygolf.com for various reasons. First and foremost, I barely have time to spend on here.....as I have very little time to spend with my wife and daughter to begin with. Being a teaching professional takes extremely tough dedication and you have to work very long hours. Very little free time is left...and my priorties are my family. Second, as many of you know, my health is not good.... as my heart problems seem to be getting worse. I don't need any more stress than I already have....so I am taking a back seat to relax more and get my health back to where it should be. I have also been criticized and censored by people that disagree with some of my opinions. My freedom of speech is being trampled upon enough to the point that I have decided to give up the fight....as I have very little energy left to fight against those who always disagree with me.

I appreciate all the years of posts on the site from everyone who has ever visited Loftygolf.com....somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600 thousand hits. It couldn't have ended on a better day for myself, our academy, and more importantly, one of my students. A junior golfer, who I have coached for a little over 2.5 years now, won the 2008 State High School Championship. No one thought he could win....they didn't even mention his name. Everyone said he had too bad of a temper and lacked the experience. He and I talked about this for the past month and changed it all for the good. The last 2 days, Andrew Baldo showed me exactly what I want to see in a junior golfer's growth in the game. He matured 10 years this week and deserves all the credit in the world for overcoming his demons in the game. He practiced night and day for this title and that is why he won. He swung his club in his garage and out in his yard, very late into the evening and sometimes in the wee hours of the morning. He changed his attitude and became a better man because of it. Channeling his temper into a controlled aggression is not easy for any man, let alone a young one who plays an aggressive sport like ice hockey. But he did it! Now with a championship under his belt, he won the respect that he deserved. To top this off, he is one awesome person off of the golf course...and I am especially proud of him for all of these accomplishments. Congrats Andrew...soak in the win, because this is only the beginning for you in your golf career!

Once again, thanks for all the cool and exciting posts over the years.....good luck to everyone...maybe I'll be back in some capacity down the line. You never know what lies ahead in life.

DrGolf

Edited by doctorgolf - 28 May 2008 at 11:43pm
